Enabling microphone on teams
The most common issue causing issues with microphones in Teams is the microphone being turned off or disabled. The microphone can be turned on from within the teams program.
1. Join the teams meeting to access audio and video settings.
2. Ensure microphone is turned on. If the microphone is turned off the button will be white, as demonstrated below. The microphone can be turned on by clicking the button. An example of the microphone turned off and on can be seen below.

Ensure correct microphone is selected
The laptops provided by Dietitians Australia will almost always have a microphone built in. When connected to a dock, there will also generally be a webcam attached as part of the dock that can pick up audio. If the wrong microphone is selected, the audio in teams may be muffled, quiet or inaudible. The correct microphone can be selected from within teams.
1. If the microphone is enabled, but the audio is not clear, check the microphone settings to see if the correct microphone is being used by teams. The microphone settings panel can be viewed by selecting either of the buttons circled in the image below.
2. Clicking these icons will open the panel pictured below on the right-hand side of the teams window.
3. Under 'Microphone' is a drop down box to select the audio source for teams. Most laptops will have an inbuilt microphone at the top of the laptop screen that can be used when not plugged into a dock and a webcam that can act as a microphone and only be used when the laptop is connected to a dock. If the microphone selected is not picking up sound, try using the other microphone to see if this resolves the issue.

Allow windows access to microphone
1. If the microphone is enabled and the correct microphone is selected, but it is still not picking up audio, check the windows access settings to ensure teams is able to access the microphone. Open the Settings menu from the start button, or from the Settings icon in the taskbar.
2. From the settings window, navigate to Privacy & Security.
3. Scroll down and select Microphone.
4. Find the setting for Teams and enable access by turning On.
If you have completed the above steps and you are still having difficulty with your microphone in Teams, restart your computer. If you have completed all these steps and are still having difficulty, engage IT support by creating a Helpdesk ticket.
