Zip files or folders are compressed to take up less storage space. Zip files are quicker and easier to transfer or email because of the smaller file size. Some files, like word documents or PDF's can be heavily compressed by creating Zip files, however other files like JPEG images cannot be compressed and will not benefit from creating Zip files.
To create a Zip file or folder
1. Locate the file(s)/folders you want to Zip and select them.
2. Right click on the file(s)/folders. Select 'Compress to Zip File'.
3. A new folder with the file extension '.zip' will be created. Zip files have a zipper on their icon, as seen below.
You can rename the folder by right clicking on it and selecting 'Properties'. From the properties window,
From the properties window edit the name only (Highlighted in blue), but leave the '.zip' at the end of the name.
Turning Zip files/folders back into regular files/folders
1. Locate and select the folder you want to unzip files/folders from.
2. Right click the folder and click 'Extract All...'.
